Lead AI Engineer at Nebulock

Location:

Remote (U.S.-based); proximity to Boston, NYC, or D.C. is a plus

About Us:

Nebulock is a seed-stage cybersecurity startup backed by Bain Capital Ventures and Decibel Partners, building the future of agentic AI–driven threat hunting.

We’re reimagining how detection engineering is done, empowering analysts and defenders with AI agents that can automatically find, validate, and explain complex attacks like lateral movement, insider threats, and credential misuse.

We’re a high-caliber team driven by curiosity, speed, and technical depth building the tools that will define the next era of threat hunting

Position Overview:

As the Lead AI Engineer, you’ll join our technical team and help architect the next generation of agentic security systems.

You’ll work closely with Nebulock’s founder and Head of Architecture & AI to translate messy human threat-hunting workflows into production-ready AI agents, combining research, infrastructure, and applied ML.

This role is ideal for an AI builder who speaks both embeddings and adversaries, someone who’s as comfortable fine-tuning a model as they are designing the system around it.

Our Values

Low Ego, Empathy for the Customer, Passion for the Problem, and Learning and Accountability.

Expected Impact:
Build Agentic AI Systems: Design, train, and deploy intelligent agents that automate detection workflows and reason over complex security data.

Translate Research into Production: Turn emerging ideas in LLMs, retrieval, and multi-agent systems into scalable, operational capabilities.

Scale Infrastructure: Develop pipelines for model training, evaluation, and continuous learning across diverse data environments.

Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work with detection engineers, data scientists, and product leads to encode domain expertise into AI reasoning.

Prototype & Experiment: Explore new architectures, self-improvement loops, and adaptive agents that push the boundaries of autonomy.

Develop and Deploy Traditional Models: Build, train, and productionize classical ML models (e.g., anomaly detection, outlier scoring, clustering) that complement LLM-based reasoning systems.

Iterate Rapidly: Prototype, validate, and ship models quickly from notebook to production leveraging modern MLOps tools and CI/CD workflows.

Mentor & Lead: Elevate the team’s applied AI skill set and contribute to the foundation of Nebulock’s AI engineering culture.

Who You Are:
Security engineer or data scientist turned AI builder;  you understand both threats and tokens.
Proven track record building and deploying AI/ML or LLM systems into production.

Strong fluency in Python, deep learning, and applied large model techniques (fine-tuning, RAG, embeddings, orchestration).

Experience architecting scalable data or inference pipelines.

Curiosity-driven and relentless about building systems that learn and adapt.

U.S.-based (citizenship preferred); able to travel occasionally for team meetups or on-sites.

Preferred Experience :
Background in cybersecurity, detection engineering, or security automation.
Hands-on experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or multi-agent frameworks.

Familiarity with vector databases, GraphDBs, or retrieval architectures.

Experience integrating AI systems into real-time event pipelines (e.g., SIEMs, EDRs).

Experience with anomaly detection, time-series modeling, or behavioral baselining in security or data-intensive environments.

Prior experience in an early-stage startup or AI-first company.

What We Offer:
A founding-level technical role with massive impact and ownership.
Opportunity to define the architecture and intelligence layer of a next-generation AI security platform.

A low-ego, high-autonomy culture built around curiosity, rigor, and experimentation.

Competitive compensation, early equity, and full benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k).

Access to leading minds in AI and security through our investors, advisors, and customers.
